GRACE's Community Connections:
Since it's birth in 1972, GRACE has been committed to "visibly enabling a collective expression of the kingdom". From issues of Christian Unity to ecumenical worship opportunities to dismantling poverty and building justice to representing the religious community on area boards and committees, GRACE connects people of faith to larger community issues in order to promote to common good, collaborating with area congregations, associations, agencies, organizations within the larger community, attempting to ehance cooperation among the "diversities" in our community.
GRACE Board and Staff provide pulpit supply, teaching and consultation with representatives or committees regarding ministry issues and responds to frequent questions regarding the religious or social justice arena. They also serve as religious community representatives on various boards and projects including: Emergency Food and Shelter Local Board, the Kent County Emergency Needs Task Force, Heart of West Michigan United Way Cabinet and the Public Policy Committee, and the West Michigan Strategic Alliance.
GRACE supports the following programs through co-sponsorship and/or endorsement:
Restorative Justice Coalition of West Michigan (RJCWM)
The purpose of the Restorative Justice Coalition is to educate the community about the principles of restorative justice; to motivate the faith community to work for change; to advocate for change in the current criminal justices procedures; and to advocate for resources to effect change.
Faith in Motion (FIM)
Faith in Motion is a coalition of religious communities in the metropolitan area advocating for a comprehensive public transportation system to be built. This system would be a means to support the dignity and freedom of all individuals; create an open, hospitable and welcoming community; respect the environment; open economic opportunity to all; and move people where they need to be.
Disaster Response
GRACE (along with ACCESS) serves as a resource link for the religious community in the event of a major disaster in Kent County.
The The Micah Center
The Micah Center is a faith-based, grassroots effort to promote social justice through education and action in West Michigan. We encourage you to join the local movement to pray and advocate for change in our community--find out how.
Fish For My People
Fish For My People serves transportation needs in the community. Persons in need of rides are connected with volunteer driving teams from area congregations. Call 774-2045.
Church Women United
GRACE provides the ecumenical organization, Church Women United with assistance in mailings.
Compassionate Friends
GRACE provides the ecumenical organization, Compassionate Friends, with assistance in mailings and other organizational needs.
Interfaith Dialogue Association
GRACE provides sponsorship of Interfaith Dialogue events, as well as assistance in mailings and other organizational needs.
