West Michigan Call to Renewal (WMCTR) is a West Michigan movement of people of faith overcoming poverty, led by the West Michigan Call to Renewal Committee, coordinated by and legally grounded in the Grand Rapids Area Center for Ecumenism (GRACE), affiliated with the National Call to Renewal, and supported by denominations, congregations, organizations and people of faith in West Michigan. On November 10, 2000, committed people of faith in West Michigan rallied together at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and pledged to work together in renewed efforts to dismantle poverty and build justice in our area. We're part of the "Call to Renewal," a growing national movement of Evangelical, Main-line Protestant and Catholic Christians coming together to work for and with those of us in our communities who are poor, left out, or on the fringe-those for whom Christ has special concern. Since November 2000, five Action Groups have been meeting around the critical issues of: Affordable Housing, Health Care, Livable Family Income, Mentoring/Family Support, Transforming Criminal Justice and Urban Sprawl. These Action Groups are dynamic places where leaders in each area come together to collaborate in new and exciting ways of making progress! The overall purpose of WMCTR is to lead a community faith response to poverty in that we:
